Visitor Visa USA Interview Details, B-2 Visa Questions & Answers

Sharing is caring!

This article is a continuation of the previous B2 Visa article for the visitor Visa USA interview for my mother-in-law. Those of you who read my previous article know that I sent out a package with all the paperwork to India for my Mother in law to attend the interview.

Unfortunately, the mail with all Visitor Visa documents I sent to India never reached my mother-in-law in time. I had to file a dispute with the United States Postal Service to collect the $100 delivery insurance owed to me.

So for those of you who need to send documents overseas, please be sure to use FedEx or DHL. Be sure also to make copies of everything you post by mail.

Anyhow, Lakshmi and I would like to share with you guys the good news about her Mother’s Visa approval. I had to resend all of the documents to her via email for printing. I know many of you had questions about the visitor Visa USA interview process, and that’s what I hope to clear in this article.

Visitor Visa USA Interview Details

My Mother in law had her Visa interview in the Chennai Consulate. One day before that, she had her fingerprints and pictures taken in the Off-Site Facilitation Center (OFC).

During this time, I was made aware that there are a few errors in the DS-160 application. I had screwed up my Mother in law’s gender in the application form, I know! A silly mistake. Even till today, I am in disbelief I’ve made that mistake.

So, double-check and triple-check your paperwork, folks!

We were freaking out at this time, as she only had one day left for the interview. Thankfully, people at the O.F.C. center were accommodating; of course, with a 600 rupees service charge, they were willing to make changes in the application for my mother-in-law.

I believe these changes can be done by yourself as well as using a computer system there. My Mother in law is not computer savvy, and we didn’t want to risk it, so we used their support to do the same. They logged in with her user information and created a new DS-160 form with the changes and printed out another confirmation page.

Now you must bring your old and new confirmation pages to the interview so they can verify the changes you have made.

On the interview day, my mother-in-law had a translator, and people with translators were selected last. Being the last one on the list was a blessing for my mother-in-law as she had more time to prepare for the visitor Visa USA interview.

Luckily, the immigration officers asked her a few straight forward questions and nothing too confusing. Here are the Visitors Visa interview questions they asked her.

  1. When do you plan to go to the U.S.?
  2. What is the purpose of your visit?
  3. Who is sponsoring your visit?
  4. What does your son in law do?
  5. What does your daughter do?
  6. How long do you plan to stay in the U.S.?

Be sure to practice all of the possible Visitor Visa USA. interview questions they can ask, here is an excellent resource More Visitor Visa U.S.A. Interview Questions. The key is to stay calm and answer without stuttering.

Visitor Visa USA Interview – Supporting Documents

They requested from her the Affidavit of Support form, and she handed them the same. They also asked if she had other supporting documents such as tax returns, but they just wanted to confirm she had them.

The interview was pretty straight forward and was over with quickly. My Mother-in-law received her Visa stamped passport back at the pick-up location within three days.
